O’Neal Lower School Celebrates Read Across America Week

The O’Neal Lower School embraced the joy of reading during Read Across America Week, engaging students in a fun-filled agenda designed to celebrate literacy, creativity, and school spirit. Each day brought a new theme and special guest readers, making the week an exciting adventure through books.

The Week’s Festivities:

Monday – Slipper and Slide into Reading
Students got cozy in their slippers (for classroom use only!) and started the week with guest readers Mr. Sandy Boyd and Mrs. Beverly O’Donnell.

Tuesday – The Bright Side of Reading
Students sported sunglasses or an "un-hat" while listening to Mrs. Elizabeth Sager and Dr. Christie Rains with 5th-grade reading buddies.

Wednesday – Books Bring Us Together
Each grade wore a different color of the rainbow, symbolizing how stories unite us. Classes took photos for a special “Rainbow of Readers” collage. O'Neal Parent Mrs. Megan Pearsall was a guest reader.

Thursday – Books Bring Out Our Wild Side
Students showed their wild side in animal print or camo, with Ms. Joni Warner captivating them with a live storytelling session and Coach Jen Hamner reading later that morning.

Friday – School Spirit Day
Everyone donned Falcon Blue to wrap up the week in true O’Neal style! Special guest readers Dr. Dale McInnis and Mr. Geoffrey Cutler brought the celebration to a fantastic close. A bonus challenge encouraged students to complete a BINGO board for extra fun.

Read Across America Week was a wonderful success, reinforcing the power of storytelling and the excitement of getting lost in a great book. Thank you to all our guest readers and participants for making this week memorable!
