A Great Performance: These Shining Lives
Congratulations to the cast and crew of "These Shining Lives" performed last weekend.
The O'Neal Players, featuring middle and upper school students, brought to life the poignant story of the Radium Girls in These Shining Lives November 1, 2, & 3. Enjoy a moving drama about courage and justice.
The talented cast was led by:
- Caitlyn Blocklinger as Catherine
- Harper Hairston as Charlotte
- Maddie Wicks as Frances
- Sophia Goziano as Pearl
- Platon Karobko as Tom
- Mason Wicks as Mr. Reed
Supporting roles will be played by Neelix McLaurin, Tanner Kennedy, Adalyn Pohlmeyer, Camden Lovsin, and Lacy Boyd.
The production team includes Ami Batterjee (Stage Manager), Nicolas Caldwell (Sound Design/Operator), Paige (Jay) Greytak (Lighting Design/Operator), and Guy Roberts (Lighting/Sound Supervisor). Hannah Wilcox and Maddie Wicks handle costuming and hair/makeup, with Taylor Morozava/Wave Babe Designs consulting on hair and makeup. Ms. Joni Warner serves as the Director and Set Designer, with Jay Greytak assisting in scenery.
O'Neal's adaptation of These Shining Lives, by Dramatic Publishing and written by Melanie Marnich, recounts the story of the Radium Girls, women employed in a watch factory during the 1920s and 1930s. The play delves into their harrowing experiences with radium exposure and its health impacts, underscoring issues of modernization, workers' rights, and gender equality. Through themes of friendship, persistence, and justice, These Shining Lives not only reveals the perils faced by the Radium Girls but also the wider indifference of companies towards employee health. The play’s inspiring narrative sheds light on their fight for justice, which ultimately sparked lasting change.
