The O'Neal Players Perform "James and the Giant Peach"

The O’Neal Players will perform “James and the Giant Peach” on Friday, March 22nd @ 6:30 pm, Saturday, March 23rd @ 6:30 pm, and Sunday, March 24th at 2:00 pm in the Hannah Center Theater of The O’Neal School.
An adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic, the audience will travel with James in his giant peach on a voyage in the ocean with insects the size of humans and equally sized personalities. They face hunger, sharks and lots of disagreements. James’ cleverness and creativity make it possible for the residents of this enormous fruit to live and work together as a family. Featured is a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald. It is produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International, New York, NY.

O’Neal’s production is directed by theater instructor Joni Warner. Music is directed by music instructor David Lussier. Tech director is Nicole Wallace, a lower school faculty member. Choreography was created by Mackenzie Chu, middle school English teacher, and students Savannah Campbell, Sahara Kokott, and Charlotte Mills.  Charlotte also serves as the dance captain.  Costumes are designed by Taylor Kraus and Maddie Hostler, students in the upper school theater class.

O'Neal's production has a large cast including students from the O’Neal Lower, Middle, and Upper School divisions. In addition, a live orchestra comprised of students, faculty members, parents, and friends of the school will be featured.  Over 30 students assisted in scenery construction and costume design, and several will assist with the running crew.

“James and the Giant Peach is just magical!”, exclaims musical director Joni Warner.  “We have third through 12th grade students in the production and we’re excited to bring it to life. This year’s production is unique in showing how our students have stepped up to take leadership roles with costume and scenery, and assisting with choreography design.”

The lead actors of the cast include Hannah Wilcox as James, Reese Cabanillas as Spiker, Isla Riggsbee as Sponge (with understudy Emmalee Moore), Sahara Kokott as Earthworm (understudy Harper Hairston), Savannah Campbell as Centipede (understudy Maddie Hostler). Charlotte Mills is Spider and the dance captain. Caitlyn Blocklinger is Ladybug, Kennedy Aytes is Grasshopper. New to the O’Neal stage is Platon Korobko as Ladahlord.

O’Neal’s lower school music group, The O’Nealers, comprised of third and fourth grade students, also have roles in the fun-filled musical.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children/students and O’Neal faculty members and may be purchased HERE.
